"Our customers say our product quality is exceptionally high. But we recognize that this comes down to the quality of our workforce . . . to people who appreciate and value their jobs, as well as their environment; people who give 110% and who show their loyalty."

Local learning for employers and employees

In addition to serving 6,000 students each year, Central Lakes College (CLC) is an invaluable resource for area businesses, employees, and entrepreneurs who have an itch to launch a new product, service, or business.

As a two-year community and technical college, CLC offers liberal arts and career education at its Brainerd and Staples campuses, with more than 60 degree and professional programs available. It also extends its educational opportunities to local employers and employees through its
Business and Industry Center, where you can find education, training, and consulting. Among the services that the center offers:

  • The Customized Training & Continuing Education program provides customized leadership, resources, and training to help update, re-train, cross-train, and prepare employees for advancement.
  •  The Small Business Development Center provides assistance to small businesses to increase the number of new business start-ups and expansions, and to reduce the number of small business failures.
  • The Computerizing Small Business program assists small business owners through the process of computerization.

CLC’s Brainerd campus offers cutting-edge educational technology with a central core offering several interactive television classrooms. The Staples campus remains the center for training in diesel and heavy equipment, machine tool technology, photographic imaging, communication art and design, videography, and a unique robotics and automated systems technology program.

CLC also maintains articulation agreements with a number of four-year colleges and universities, allowing students to extend their programs with graduate studies or other work.

A bedrock of the Brainerd Lakes Area community for more than 70 years, CLC has also joined forces with the Brainerd Lakes Chamber and area school districts to develop the Bridges Career Academies to prepare students for the workplace.
